Railway Relocation Project Report

Description: Relocation of Railway 110kV Feeders for Property Development

Cable Type: 300mm2 Aluminium Fluid Filled 110kV Cable

Cable Route: Four cables were relocated away from nearby Brisbane River to roadways being constructed through a residential development – cable route 450m.

Scope of Works: In December 2003 Jubatus/Taihan was awarded an order to design, manufacture, supply and deliver 1680m of 300mm2 Aluminium fluid filled 110kV cable, four SF6 terminations, and four straight joints for the relocation project plus an additional four spare straight joints and four spare 800mm2 straight joints. The cable was delivered in June, installed the following March when site access was available and all jointing work completed by June.

Summary of Outcomes: The matching of new fluid filled cable and accessories to old cable systems presents challenges to both customer and supplier. Different conductor and insulation diameters present straight joint design and jointing challenges. There are also design challenges with terminating cables into old SF6 switchgear. The Taihan offer addressed all issues especially straight joint welding of supplied stranded conductor to the smaller existing sectored conductor. Jubatus established and maintained strong communications between ENERGEX and Taihan to resolve tendering issues and ensured complete customer satisfaction with design, jointing instructions, delivery schedules and product quality.
